About the World Cup of Gardening
Welcome to the World Cup of Gardening. The World Cup of Gardening began as a vision to present a world-class international design and cultural event on Belle Isle in Detroit that would draw inspiration from the great garden shows held annually in Chelsea (London), Philadelphia, and Singapore. Its mission is to use the garden event as a means of supporting Belle Isle and Detroit while promoting sustainability, stewardship, and community engagement.
The World Cup of Gardening team has worked for over two years to promote its signature event. It has meet with great enthusiasm and it has secured significant support from many important participants and stakeholders. However, in this time, it only managed to generate about half of the financial resources it requires to confidently execute a full-scale international show. For this reason, the World Cup of Gardening effectively suspended its activities in March, 2015.
At this point, barring the emergence of a strong and generous financial backer, the event will not occur in Detroit. A heartfelt “Thank You” goes out to the many individuals and organizations that lent every sort of support to this effort. Detroit and Belle Isle deserve a beautiful, world-class horticultural event. Best wishes to the beautiful City of Detroit and its island gem, Belle Isle Park!
